Municipal Investment Plan
Lower Investment Fees for Local Government Employees,
Elected Officials & Partners
Once
again, working together has created an exciting opportunity for
local governments in British Columbia! The Municipal Finance Authority,
in partnership with Sun Life Financial, has now begun its third
year of the Municipal Investment Program. This program offers both
RRSP and non-registered savings plan options with an extensive selection
of investment funds to choose from.
Why Join?
This voluntary program is open to all municipal employees, elected
officials and their spouses. By combining the potential of 35,000
municipal employees and 1,500 elected officials in BC, the MFA has
negotiated a substantial reduction in management fees. This
translates to increased savings for you from some of the same name
brand mutual funds available through other investment institutions.
The group potential of the program also allows you access to institutional
mutual funds which are normally only accessible to individuals with
a minimum of $10,000 and up to invest, depending on the fund. In
contrast, the Municipal Investment Plan allows you to access these
funds and their experienced fund managers with a $25 minimum payroll
contribution.
Contribute How and When You Want
Contributions can be made by payroll deduction (if your municipality
has opted in), monthly payments through the MFA, lump sum deposits,
transfers in from your current plan or simply go to Sun Life's website
(www.sunlife.ca)
if you are a member and contribute directly into the plan with your
overtime pay and retro, taking advantage of the tax savings and
low investment fees.
In addition, members have access to:
- an online tool to manage investments.
- a call-centre to assist with choices and answer questions.
- a comprehensive guide to walk them through investment options.
